How to Fix 'Error -10': I Can't Log into My BearVPN Account?

If you are seeing Error -10 when attempting to log into your BearVPN account, it indicates a Network Timeout or a Handshake Failure.

While this error can be frustrating, it is generally not caused by account status or BearVPN servers. Instead, it typically means something in your local network environment is preventing the app from "talking" to the login server.

Follow the steps below to clear the connection path and get back online.

1. Refresh Your Local Connection

Small glitches in your router or device’s network stack are the most common culprits for Error -10.

  • Restart Your Router: Unplug your router from the power source, wait 30 seconds, and plug it back in. This clears the DNS cache and resets the connection to your ISP.
  • Toggle Airplane Mode: On your mobile device, turn Airplane Mode ON for 10 seconds and then OFF. This forces your device to reconnect to the nearest cell tower or Wi-Fi access point.
  • Restart Your Device: A full system reboot can resolve background processes that might be interfering with BearVPN’s ability to establish a secure socket.

2. Switch Network Types

To narrow down where the blockage is happening, try changing how you connect:

  • If on Wi-Fi: Switch to Cellular Data (LTE/5G) and try logging in again.
  • If on Cellular: Try connecting to a stable Wi-Fi network.
  • Disable Hotspots: Ensure you are not connected to a public or restricted "Guest" Wi-Fi (like at a school or office), as these often block VPN protocols by default.

3. Check for Firewall or Antivirus Interference

Sometimes, third-party security software identifies the encrypted login attempt as "suspicious" and cuts the connection.

  • Temporarily disable any third-party firewalls or antivirus software.
  • If the login works afterward, add BearVPN to your software's "Whitelist" or "Allowed Apps" list.

4. Reset Network Settings (Advanced)

If the steps above don't work, there may be a deeper configuration issue on your device.

  • Mobile: Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset [Device] > Reset > Reset Network Settings.
(Note: This will clear the saved Wi-Fi passwords, so be cautious).

  • Desktop: Ensure no other VPN or Proxy services are running in the background, as they can conflict with BearVPN’s login process.

Note: If you have confirmed your internet is working perfectly on other apps but Error -10 persists across multiple networks, please contact our support team with a screenshot of the error and the name of your Internet Service Provider (ISP).
